There are limited student loan referral resources. You may be frustrated because of the limited numbers of lawyers working in this field (particularly free or low cost legal services), but there are some legal referral options to consider. Ombudsman programs may also be helpful.
You should also contact your loan servicer if you have questions about your payments or other issues. Department of Education loan servicers are supposed to do more than just collect payments. They should also help with questions about flexible and affordable repayment and other options. The Department of Education and other loan holders have ombudsman programs if you cannot find what you need from your servicer or otherwise need assistance. The Department of Education also has an on-line contact list for the various Department service centers. You can learn about and apply for these programs for free. Be especially wary of companies charging you for government programs that you can get for free.
